Wont Start help!

my 89 turbo died as i was picking up to highway speed .At first i was speeding up then i just stopped gaining speed it stayed running for abit staying at the same speed even though i should have easily been going faster. Then after a few seconds it stalled. the radio and everything still works and it turns over quite fast but while trying to start it backfires sometimes. There is also spark so it is a fuel problem What should i check?

Also while i was looking around in the engine bay i saw that the air hose from the air meter to the turbo was cut or broken and on the air flow meter there was nothing connected to the side and there is some sort of electrical plugin there butim sure its been like that for along time.

Thank you
Shea

If you have a break in the turbo inlet duct (the hose between the air meter and turbo) then you may have run the engine lean. Perform a compression test to make sure that it isn't blown before proceeding with any further troubleshooting.

You could jumper the fuel check connector and w/key to on the pump should turn on. You could place a fuel pressure gauge in line after the fuel filter to check for pressure according to spec.
