OR Wipers on S5 Vert

I got an issue with the windshield wiper switch on my S5 Vert.

The Intermittent "Int" setting does nothing, The slow setting "I" is fast, and the fast setting "II" stops the wipers where they are. The "Mist" option does nothing, and the windshield washer button sprays fluid but the wipers don't come on.

I'm just curious if this is a common issue, and if it is at least moderately easy to fix.

Thanks

In a 1986 GXL I used to own I had a similar problem with my wiper switch too but I dont remember reading about it being a common problem. My guess is that is has something to do with the ECU.

Maybe a bad wiper switch.

if you search you will find a lot of threds on this . its a common problem . Relay inside switch not weatherproof and fails .

OEM switches are ridiculous expensive $400. rebuilt ebay switchs $200 are better deal , best deal is fix yourself with a 25$ omicron relay . you will find instructions HOW TO in your thread search

The gentleman above me is correct. Fix it yourself. If you are not comfortable soldering I believe a forum member, Pele(?) offer this service for a reasonable price. Vert wipers are of course different than the couple wipers and the 88/89 vert wipers are different than the 90/91 very wipers hence vert wipers being MUCH more expensive in general to buy.

If you do buy instead of repair, make certain you get the correct switch and verify it works on all settings.

Good luck!

Ok, I was unsure because the other posts that I read didn't seem to have the exact same symptoms and there were also a few that replaced the relay or rebuilt the switch and it didn't fix it. I also noticed a lot of the wiring in the S5 Verts w/ the airbag is way different from the other FCs. (For example the hi-beams)

If you have the chance, as a former vert owner, keep an eye out on Ebay, the Forums and junkyards for the wiper switches and CPU (not ECU) for your car. In particular if you have a 90/91 vert, anytime you can find a steal, it's nice to have a backup and if you can acquire some cheap, you can sell them for their weight in gold (slight exaggeration).

I would have stripped them out of my vert parts car before I sold it if I knew it was a common problem. I havent read **** on it being that common, its nothing like the TPS failing or an injector leaking
