Don't use a sledge hammer.
5 screws to take the switch surround off from the gauge.If you can't slide it out,you may need to take the steering column surround off.(4 screws a retainer ring around the ignition and disconnect the key light).
Once the gauge suuround comes off then you can disconnect the switches.
Taking the whole surround off makes it real easy to see what you are up against.Only a couple phillips screws and pry the round switch cover off and it is done.
