Installing Aftermarket Seat

Alright guys so here is how I installed my Bride Zeta III seat in my FD. There was some custom work that I had to do because of the fact I need the seat as low as possible for me to fit in properly. (6ft tall)

Installing Aftermarket Seat-gopr0097_zps767cdcdf.jpg

I took the factory seat rails and took them down to just the plain rail without the slider on them. This way it save a lot of time with matching up the holes and stuff.

Then for the cross pieces I took two pieces of steel and welded them onto the rails and for extra safetyness I bolted the front down to the rails.

Finished product.

I've had it in the car and everything lines up and fits nice, kinda tight, but I expected that. If you guys have any thoughts on this please let me know.

4 hours?
what are you on..METH?..
I took some Geritol before doing this..I am on Day FOUR!..(hahhaha!)..
Then again I took seats out of the TII ,took seats out of the N/A..made brackets to put the TII Aftermarket seats in the N/A,Put the driver's side in..
did the same again for passenger and "just" got the seat in when I could not see any longer.
I still have to put the same Type Seat back in the TII,which I already have.
Black seats in the N/A and Blue in the TII.

Luke,

Nice fabrication!

How does the seat fit? Do you have any rubbing on the door/etc? Also, did you use the zeta iii type L or the plain zeta iii?

I'm planing on doing the same build, but I've heard that the zeta iii's have rubbing issues. My suspicion is that the people who said that didn't fabricate their own mounts, but I'd rather not figure out by trial and error.

Can you post some pics of how tight it is in the car?

Thanks - Jack

Now you tell me. haha
I just installed some APC seats I picked up for 100 locally... Now my head about rubs the roof and I'm 5' 10". Oh well. Looks like I'll be modifying my rails this week while I wait on paint to show up.

..ah just have a "minor grinder accident" JJ..lol!
you can make yourself 5'6" in no time, but your carpets may get Stained..Stubby!!!

I used some Bride brackets and they needed modification too on some APC "look a like" seats.they rub due to height.
But,I did install another "exact set"( but different color) in the N/A using the factory brackets. They do not hit.
The trouble with those seats is that they are Off by about an 3/4 inch on the bolt pattern from stock..very close though.
I drilled one stock bracket and placeed it on the seat, then used flat steel and elongated the holes to bring the Seat bolt pattern Back into place..( I hope you can understand that without pics..!).It allowed that side to be moved while I set the seat in place.I attached the other bracket to the flat steel and moved the bracket into place then tightened down that side..Perfecto-mundo!
I thought I was a "freakin' Genius" doing it that way!..lol
It did save 200 bucks...so I went out and Got Drunk and spend 300!..(Just kidding..I got a hooker,I don't drink!)

I've seen the seat fitment thread, but I want to hear it straight from someone who's actually installed the seat in question.

Also some people in the seat thread complained about rubbing on the door panels with the zeta iii. I've been doing my fair share of lurking.

Oh JEEEZE! I have the seats moving front to rear and the bolts aligned (driver's seat anyway). The problem is the height, my legs are almost touching the steering wheel. I'm using the factory rails but I think the seat just sits to high for my liking. I may have to permanently bolt it in place to the floor(or close to it at least) I have until September; no rush or anything lol Later when I get nice seats I'll go all out and have to buy aftermarket rails though. Custom fabricating everything really eats up time... honestly I had no idea. Classic mistake though. Always learning

The only other thing I can think of in your case is to see if you can get rid of the "hump" that the brackets attach to and then weld your sliders to the floor. That may give you an inch or so extra downwards.
If you look at the way that the driver's sliders are placed, you see that "hump" where the bolt holes are..that reinforced stuff?..
Notice that the slider is On TOP of it?..that much space.
the adjuster may hit(cable like thing on the handle that pulls the locks to adjust the rails) ..just thinking about that..
anyhow check it and see what you think.

I'm in the tall boat as well. At the moment I have to do some pretty awkward things to fit in at all.

Why does everyone want rails? They add a lot of height. I'm going to go non-adjustable. Every last millimeter counts.

Hey guys. I'm going to upload some pics tomorrow with the seat in place. Its a Zeta III (normal size). I had no problems with getting it fitted, but it is a tight fit and has to be done right.

Took it all apart tonight to see if they could be cut. It looks like it would angle the seat downward a bit and the cable may stick on the floor. I'll have to cut the "humps" off and weld in a flat floor panel and modify the stock brackets flat. In order to stop the cable from hanging up the modded floor panel will have to have a slight tunnel downwards. I'm sure I could make it all happen but it's an awful amount of work. Sine I have a harness and I'm extremely picky with my seat position I may just drill the seat to the floor on a set of angle irons. That way when I have money for nice seats and brackets I can attach them to the hump, and for now it'll sit lower. I have a couple ideas to run with now at least.

Alright here are the pics of my fitment. As you can see it is a tight fit, but it works. The side shoulder brace part of the seat does touch the door, but it [B]does not[B] affect the door in anyway when closing. Also I'm 6 feet tall and I have about 1 inch of clearance from my head to the roof.
