MD wiper problem

The only issue for my MD inspection was the wipers. Intermit does not work and when they are turned off, they just stop where they are. Is this a switch problem or a motor and is it something that can be fixed in my garage or should I take it to a pro? Anybody had this on an 88?

More than likely the relay in the switch is bad, as this is a VERY common problem.

You can replace the switch or attempt to fix it yourself following a write up.

hardest bit is removing the 6 old relay pins from circuit board, dont use too much heat at one time with soldering iron.I also handrilled the holes clean with a drill bit before installing new relays. just be carefull when cutting out the plastic side that you dont damage circuit board. other than that its a very satisfying fix.

I have the same problem. Is there a shop that will rebuild the switch.

Jack,
I had success with following the directions of the web site above. The relay was $6, I did have a friend that was expierienced with soldering and desoldering. I dont think I could have done it without his help. But, everything now works and I have my MD inspection. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Son lives in Forest Hills MD.

The fix sounds like something I do not want to try for now. Do not know anyone that could help. Maybe I can find someone to rebuild it later.

Thanks

After a time I could tell the thing would not fix it self so I got after it.

Repaired the Switch yesterday and got every thing back together today and now everything works. .
