Window motor works but not going up and down

Window motor works but not going up and down. the window looks to be on the track but whatever moves the window up and down is not working.

it's an 86. You can hear it going but the window won't go up. Thanks for responding.

There's a good chance that the window ribbon has failed and the motor is just freewheeling. In some cases the glass will become detached from the regulator but the glass will still move some. Does the glass move at all and does it bind or can you o ly hear the window motor operating? You will have to remove the door panel and inspect the regulator and glass to see what's going on. If you get stumped we are here to help.

on my 86 the track was bent a little and the slider was worn to the point it kept popping off the rail. You could move the window by pulling up or down while you used the button but wouldn't move on its own. its only like 3 screws and a bunch of clips holding the panel onto the door.
