whats wrong here?

i had my motor rebuilt and im looking at the pictures the guy took during the whole rebuild and i noticed something wrong.... s4 and s5 housings? will this be ok?? its an 88 NA. i paid the guy $250 for a new core because he said that mine was toast. now that im looking thru the pictures i realized that he did not buy a new core but used my existing housings. then again im new to rotory's and i could be wrong all together.

heres a shot of my motor before it was pulled and rebuilt/painted.

It looks that he used different housings... I have my reasons to think so. If this guy is a reputable engine builder, he'd probably have no issues with showing you that the old housings are "toast". Have him prove it.

I like the Rasta color scheme!

Yeah makes sense. And another thing I noticed is that the s4 housing is first then on the rebuild its on the rear?

now i'm not too familiar with the s4/s5 engines so i don't know how u can tell the differences just by looking at a pic. i know the pre-79 engines have different markings cast into them so as to tell what yr they came from. looks to me like if he did use ur housings he swapped them front and rear. all u have to do is go check on the progress and actually see what he did or did not do. he should be able to show proof of what he replaced. any reused parts should go back in the engine in the same place it came from.

Would having it streetported make any difference on the ignition timing?

While this looks to be the case... I am still skeptical.

DankestKush, can you post more detailed pics of the engine? Do you have more of the old engine without hoses in the way??

Also... Have this guy prove to you that your housings were unusable. Have him send you PLENTY of proof.

If you look where it says "13b Mazda" the s4 is flush whereas the s5 is more raised up.

Yeah, be sure you look through those... Is this guy a reputable engine builder?

I am now questioning this build myself.

Look at the spark plugs. Notice that they are place in different places from series 4 to series 5.
It is not a good idea to use housings from different series because of this. Your timimg will be way off and the engine may never run right.

Not in the ignition timing. It will only change the intake and or exhaust opening / closing time. Make sense?

I went ahead and made up a Photobucket account and uploaded all the pics from the CD so it will be much easier for everyone to get close up shots of everything.
