What would you pay?
I've made a thread like this before and I'm trying not to make a habit of it..for that I apologize. Since I'm in the market for an rx7 I want to make sure I don't buy a money pit. I believe someone here once said, "the cheapest part of owning an rx7 is buying one". I just want some experienced input before I get into something over my head. I talked to the guy and he reposted his ad and dropped his price ~$500 if I recall correctly. Before he reposted, I asked him the following questions: 1. Has the engine been rebuilt at all? (if so: when, by who, what parts were replaced, and do you have the recipts/and or warranty?) 2. Is there ANY rust anywhere, specifically: frame rails, strut mounts, wheel wells, anywhere? 3. Has the car ever been in an accident/collision? 4. Why are some pieces missing from the front? (FTP lenses, signal lights, and fogs, ect..) 5. Are there any mechanical issues? (leaks, smoke on start up: blue or white, flooded engine, ect..) 6. How many miles are on the chassis/body..and has it been garaged or driven in the winter? 7. Just out of curiosity, how many people have owned the car before you?
He responded: "I'm afraid a lot of your questions I can not answer. We have a customer that made some purchases and we pretty much traded this car for the balance. I can tell you the car is NOT perfect. There is rust in the underbody but not on the rails, work will be involved if you want it to be "show" condition. The motor was not rebuilt, just swapped as it had a blown 13b in it previously. Pretty sure the car was not garage kept. Does have various area's of surface rust. It does come with an aftermarket exhaust, unknown.150k on the chassie, about 80k on the motor. The car starts everytime, and no smoke."
Sorry for the lengthy story. I was just wondering what some of you guys would be willing to pay for this, as advice to me before I make a purchase and end up broke. Thanks
