What is required to turbo an 85 rx7?
Hey I just bought an 85 rx7 its carbureted as well. I heard its possible to turbo a carb engine but max 7-10psi. But that would be enough to push out some power in this car anyway. So I'm wondering what's the easiest way to go about it, best place to mount intercooler, turbo etc? Or would it be easier to supercharge it and is that even viable?

The easiest way to turbocharge the car is to swap the 2nd gen 13BT engine in, with full 2nd gen EFI/emissions harness and ECU. You'll need to use an EFI fuel pump, swap the 12A front cover onto the engine, use a GSL-SE front crossmember and a GSL-SE oil pan modified with an oil drain. Use the 12A flywheel to match the existing transmission. See the 1st gen FAQ for 2nd gen turbo engine swapping details. Aside from a few minor issues, it is fairly straightforward.
I would not recommend turbocharging the carbureted engine. You'll blow through a few engines getting it right, and it will never be quite correct. For example, you'll need to lock the distributor at a safe timing value, meaning it drives well under boost but poorly everywhere else.
If you do want to turbo the 12A, everything will need to be custom. Upgrade to EFI using a standalone of your choice.

I have seen a few guys on conversion perversion do na2t rotary swaps with a blow through set up, but you would need to make really sure you get the fuel dialed in! And ^ he. Is right unless you find someone who has done it and copy the set up? Then you never really know...
