Question What is porting?

I sort of understand it and I've read you can do it to N/A engines. I'm just pretty unsure of what is... help? haha

your engine has intake and exhaust ports, holes that allow it to breath. porting is when you make those holes bigger. this allows it to breath better. you CAN go too big though. and keep in mind whatever you take off you can't put back. when it comes to rotaries the are different kinds of ports.

street port- pretty much you just make them bigger.

bridge port/half bridge port (i think they're the same thing)- you actually add a port under one of the intake ports (another hole), but so close that it leaves a "bridge" in between them.

peripheral port- i don't really know a good way to explain it. i think it's the like 12a with the ports entering the rotor housing from the end instead of around the sides of the rotor? i could be wrong though.
