What kind of intake setup?
Hey guys, I purchased this car a month or two ago and I'm trying to replace the crappy intake system it came with. I did some searches and figured if I still had the stock intake I'd be in good shape. However I don't have the stock intake system so I'd like to see what brand of intake systems I am able to get. There were some nice and pricey intake systems, like the autoexe, and m2 cold air box intake. Also saw some cheaper ones like the Petitt Intake system but I don't know whether it will work with the current intake piping I have. Also, the piece with the duct tape on it, is there an aftermarket piece I can replace that with?

You could try getting a stock intake box with stock hoses from the PARTS FOR SALE section, but I'm not absolutely certain it will fit with your SMIC (GReddy). Those hard pipes you have would not work with it though. And again, I THINK the box will fit, but not positive. On the plus side....a decent stock box won't cost much and you can modify the bottom of the stock box to source fresh air from below. With a K & N it's a very effective set-up...just not flashy. Just be sure to get the mounting brackets if your's aren't still there.
Based on what I can see in the picture, that intake doesn't look all that bad, it's just open to the engine heat. If you have some fab skills a shield might help.
Pettit should fit fine.
The piece with duct-tape is called the cioss-over pipe. A used replacement shouldn't be much more than shippping. You might also consider looking for an "efini 'Y' pipe" set-up though. It was a MAZDA re-design that eliminates the failure prone coupler at the top of the turbos for that crosssover with a bolt-on connection. It consists of an aluminum cross-over pipe instead of plastic, flows a bit better and is plug-n-play for our earlier production cars.

PFS intake is a nice piece with a BIG K & N inside, but in it's original form, it sources/scavanges some air from the intercooler duct just like the OEM intake. It can be modified easily to get most of it from below (It's what I have), but I don't see them offered very often by themselves....usually they're paired with the PFS SMIC.
S R Motorsports offers an intake box VERY similiar to the M2 and that would fit fine. They're stupid pricey new, but more reasonable used. And used ones come up FS, as does the M2 (M2s are no longer manufactured) in the PARTS FOR SALE section. Personally, if I had the GReddy SMIC as you have, I would look hard at one of those. I'm not a fan of the ARC.
