What is air gap from Flexplate and converter?

What is air gap from Flexplate and converter?

I'm installing new motor on my daughter's 1991 FC Vert. I'm struggling with mounting the motor to bellhousing. I pushed the TC(torque converter) all the way in, I hope. When I bolt up the transmission snug, I can't move the converter because it's tight against the flex plate. I have to back out bolts a bit to be able to move TC freely and install TC bolts then tighten bellhousing bolts. Does anyone remember if there is a air gap between flex plate and TC when bellhousing snug to motor?

I bolted up everything and turned crankshaft and it seems fine. I just want to make sure that all is fine or I have to press TC in more before I button everything up.

The torque converter should be rotated when installing and will drop in at several steps. The snout should be flush or slightly less than flush with the bellhousing. You should have to press it in, just simply rotate it. Sometimes it takes a few turns to get them to sink in properly.
