Weird Oil Pressure Readings
I found a thread on this subject where the poster has the same problem. An answer hasn't been posted yet and I can't yet reply. I just got this car and I want to make sure I take care of it. Any problem I want to jump on as soon as possible. I've participated in a number of motorcycle related forums like RX-7 Club and I know this is a great place to meet like-minded people and find excellent advice.
Here's the details: 84 GSL 12a all stock
oil was changed less than 2 weeks ago with about 1000 miles since then (I bought it and drove it it home from MO - way cool ride). With A/C running or with RPMs in excess of about 2.5k I get a pretty constant 60 + or - a needle's width. Without the A/C, the needle can dip to just below the hash mark between 0 and 60. Revving the engine a bit adjusts the pressure reading. I can almost tell you how fast the engine is turning by reading the oil pressure.
The other tread had a reply that suggested an electrical relation. Would someone be so kind as to offer some details on what needs to be checked and what needs to be cleaned?
I'm not mechanically disabled, but I will admit that my profession involved keyboards and bytes and I only play with wrenches. I'm not ready to tear anything down for a rebuild, but I can handle most challenges that don't involve removing major assemblies.
Thanks!

That's actually about normal behavior for a 1stgen with the 12A engine. How many miles do you have on this engine? A change to a slightly higher viscosity oil will push those numbers up on the low end if it really bothers you that much.

"normal behavior" are welcome words....
The speedo read 128500 on the way home from work this evening. The numbers don't bother me if it is normal. I decided to look here this evening because the readings seem to be more erratic as of late, but it could just be that I've become more accustomed to the car and I'm just noticing more of the detail.
By the way, I do plan to change the viscosity with the next oil change.
I consider myself fairly lucky to have literally stumbled on this particular car. I've been casually looking on and off for probably the past 10 years or so. Yes, it is 25 years old and it has the "character" to prove that. My plan is to take care of it, fix the things that need fixing, and enjoy!
