water pump issues, please assist!

i posted a thread yesterday but it's not up yet.. so here's a few pictures of what i need help with on the water pump.

1. i'm not quite sure what this is or where it goes... i thought it may be a temperature sensor/something for the thermostat.

2. I know a hose goes on here. Is this the line that runs to the water pump?

Here's where I was talking about on the water pump. (Disregard the sensor thing circled for question #2)

3. What is this, where does it go and what does it do? It wasn't even hooked up to anything when we pulled off the pump. I didn't even know it existed before hand. I thought that it may connect to the thing in photo 1. Yes, I am aware it looks destroyed. I'll replace it when I find out what it is.

Anyways, thanks for helping me out here. I'm still a noob, but I think I'm learning quite a bit.

You should post what year/model of car you're talking about. From the look, I'm assuming it's an S5 TII.

It's been years since I've looked at an S5 engine, but it looks like the first item might thread into the rear iron or water pump housing and act as a thermosensor as well.

The 3rd picture may be the nipple that runs to the BAC (your 2nd pic). You can also look in the factory service manual (FSM), which can be downloaded from the FAQ in this forum.

The last looks to be a coolant thermosensor, which should thread into the water pump housing as well, but it's clearly broken off.

1. Coolant sensor. It goes on the top of the radiator.
2. That the passage for the coolant coming from the rear housing to the thermowax onto the front housing.
3. Seems like the radiator fan switch. Does you rex has a electric radiator fan?
