CA very important question

I'm looking for an 85 gsl-se transmission. The case is cracked so I'm trying to source up a new one. A guy is trying to sell me an R1 Borg Warner off of an 85 gsl. I am pretty sure that is the 4 speed, please pm me about that because I don't want to pay 100 bucks for a 4 speed that may not work.

If the trans is actually form an 85 there is no way it is a 4 speed. You can, if you want - just swap in the GSL trans. Very minor gearing differences. Just swap over your speedo gear (a simple 10mm bolt holds it in the side where the speedo cable hooks to trans).

I bought it but I think it's an earlier rx-7 tranny. It has that cool peep hole on the bottom, a shifter hole that isn't remote and a removeable bell housing. I paid 80 bucks for it but I don't know if I can find the rebuild parts for this thing, or if I can make it work on my gsl-se

an rx7 gsl tranny should be a direct bolt on. guts will be slightly different like mentioned.

you might want to get in touch with the guy if it requires any modification to make it work.

I took his word for it. I need to check the numbers stamped on the metal tag. The ones on the tail housing read 13-52-066-921. On the other side it says Borg Warner R1. Upon researching the stamped on numbers, I found that the metal tag is the one that shows where the tranny is from. The guy I bought it from is a reputable miata and rx7 Racer out here in California so I believed him when he said he pulled it out of his GSL. I'll take a look at the tag and look up what it is from to read on about mods or not, I might want to swap this thing in since it has removable housings.

OK, so the tin "tag# 32020-06P15 J0653 13-52-151 12381" .... I tried looking it up on the 5 speed website but the closest was 153151 which was an 86 camaro. The number printed on the bell housing is 6100129. The cool thing about the tranny is that is has ARP bolts all over it. neat. I'll be posting a few pics in a bit.
