OR Urgent question about '91 TurboII RX-7

so im about to pull a good loan out to get this 91 rx7 turbo2 s5. and ive been asking this guy alot of questions about it since ive never owned one before and dont know anything about them. and the guys trying to say it smokes but not because of bad seals. It smokes because of the rich fuel mixture. It has never overheated or leaked. and that hes replaced the seals with 3mm Apex seals which are bigger and better than stock. It smokes when u start it and also if u really get on the throttle.

now i was wondering if what he says is true or if hes just bsing and the seals are going out? do 91 turbo2 rx7 smoke from start and if you step on the throttle the smoke too if your running them a too rich? or do they only smoke when u punch the throttle if its a coolant leak or something? because im hesitate on buying this if its going to be breakin down a matter of weeks or months.

thanks for all the answers/ responses in advanced! much appreciated!

Walk away unless you can get it for less than $1500 and then that body and interior better be pretty good even at that price point.

Engine is on its last legs. Oil seals.

And I'm sure that you've already heard this advice, but if you have to pull a bank loan to buy a 20 year old sports car, you cannot afford to own and maintain that 20 year old sports car.

heres the rx7 i was gonna get and i talked the guy down to 2500.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/2560168468.html

the only reason why i kinda was looking into this one is because its pretty cheap and he says it runs great just smokes from the start for couple mins like usual but then when he said it also smokes when u really give it gas thats when it got me cause reading around thats usuallly a good indication of a seal going out.

Yeah, I say walk away too. It could be a blown head gasket.

Oil control rings are gone.
That and the Pistons have vanished too!

Have your local rotary shop check it out before you buy it so you can get a good idea what it will cost to keep it running in the near future. An engine rebuild is about $2,500 to $6,000, depending on what needs to be replaced. A turbo rebuild is usually $375-500. Other common parts wear includes the driveshaft, wheel bearings, suspension springs & shocks, suspension bushings and mounts, clutch and pressure plate, fuel lines and filter, pulsation damper, radiator, etc.

I don't recommend buying a used sports car like this unless you have the cash to buy it plus about $2,000 in the bank.

Please do not buy this car. Period.

IMHO it is silly for people to take a loan out on a FD. A loan on a FC is just ridiculous.

You have received advice from knowledgeable owners. Do not buy this car. The seller is lying to you or knows nothing about rotaries...the engine is on it's way out. Tell him to find another sucker.

Go to this link to the main forum page. Scroll down near the bottom where you see the NW RX-7 Forum. This is your regional forum, and the NW For Sale/ Wanted/ Classifieds section is listed right under it.

You can also browse the main classified forum:

If you need something reliable then you are probably better off saving up enough money to buy the car, an engine rebuild, and maybe a few more repairs at the same time. Otherwise, you will need to accept that the car will not be very reliable. Converted to 2011 dollars, these cars originally sold for over $40,000, so it is not reasonable to expect a whole lot for only $2,500.

Also, you may want to fill in the location data in your user profile.
