unknown oil problem

When I purchased the car last year I put it straight in storage for the winter and knew there was a small oil leak. Today it was nice out and I got it on a lift to look and see where the problem was. I am extremely confused on what I found. There was oil dripping from the air intake filter!?!?! So we took off the air intake box and lo and behold there was a good amount in there and to one of the tubes to the turbo. We then proceed to change the oil in and and there was a good 8 quarts of oil BUT it was more like fuel and smelled like old fuel. So we changed oil and oil filter. I have yet to clean the air filter. So we started her back up and she idled much better. My question is!!!!, is this a BIG problem??? or did the people who did the last oil change not empty the oil and dump new oil in and the it was all just thinned out? ANY AWNSER WOULD BE GREAT!!!!

Thank you for your time,

Darin H

Well if the car flooded then there's a good chance it got into the oil. If the previous owners never changed the oil or addressed the flooding problem then the oil continued to be saturated.

I'd suggest making sure the car isn't flooding after shut off. I don't think it's something to worry too much about besides fouled spark plugs. If it was as bad as my car, you could light the oil with a match.

It may be due to poor crankcase ventilation.

I Would be more concerned about the oil in the air box than the dirty oil in the crankcase smelling like gas . it's possible you have flooding problems but that should be obvious ,, Oil on the air filter could make it run shitty for sure . Keep an eye on it if there is a fair amount in the air box it shouldn't be hard to find the source .

You need to find out if it is flooding before you do anything , Change the air filter out ,if it has oil on it , it could flood . 2nd if you are going to own a rotary you better get use to working with one . No one knows what kind of set up you have how can anyone help you . There are only a few guys here that are Psychic and they are really overworked . So splain it to me lucy . and someone will probably help you .

this is bone stock 93 FD with 38,500 miles on it. Pluse I do understand that these are very sensitive motors and need tons of luv. why do you think I took it straight to a lift and only have 50miles on it since I owned in November. I am willing to learn all I can about them the best I can but this is not a little Sentra with piston and vacuum central.

Change the filter... And vent your crankcase. I searched "crankcase ventilation" in the third generation section and found a lack of information. Search "crankcase ventilation" in the second generation section. This will give you better insight on how and why you should vent your crankcase. Trust me... It should help you with your situation.
