to turbo or not to turbo?

hey guys, i have a 1991 fc3s naturally aspirated. i was curious weather i should a. buy a turbo kit for the car. b. swap in a turbo II jdm motor, which will cost a lot more and make it alot longer before i can get it. or c. just get an fc that is turbo 2.

also if you guys suggest getting one, which ones are good to choose from?

If this is the same car as in your Intro thread (which I'm about to dig up and kick to the top of the board), get the turbo kit and then get the tune. You're already golden on the motor side.

alright, thanks man. do you know of any websites or somewhere to get rx7 turbo kits, or is it more of a get any turbo and tune it to your car specifically?

The amount of information and the amount of stuff available on just this website is staggering and can answer those questions better than I ever could. We actually have 2ndgen EFI/turbo guru's who prowl this New Member tech board, so let's see what they have to say once they read this thread and then the car specs found in your intro thread:

Swapping an S5 jdm motor into an S5 NA is so easy, I would definitely recommend that route. I just finished a swap on my friend's car using the jdm harness. Also, compared to Nissan and Toyota motor sets, 13BT's are so affordable. Especially since you are in Southern California where there's a ton of engine importers.

you're better off using a TURBO engine, and all of the stock turbo stuff that comes with one... but you can turbo the N/a block, but it's much more likely to suffer knock b/c of the higher compression. There is NO aftermarket turbo kits for the 2nd Gen rx-7.

what are your power goals? and how much do you want to spend, 250rwhp or below... stick with a stock turbo'd s5 turbo block(although JDM is not the best source) search for jdm short blocks and you'll see.

if you're shooting above 300rw.. get the turbo manifolds and port match them to the 6 port block. But be super careful with the tune, or have the tuning professionally done.

thanks guys, i really appreciate all your input. i was thinking of going to mazdatrix in long beach to get all my tuning and rx7 needs but do you guys know of any rotary specialist in southern california that i could also look into?
