Turbo 2 being run as an NA?

I just bought an FC and was told by the PO that the engine is a T2 being run in a base model car without the turbo and intercooler, on the non turbo ecu. Apparently a rotary shop in town has verified it is indeed a T2 motor.

Is there any way of telling if this is true?

A turbo engine will have a threaded hole on the top of the front iron for the tube's oil feed line. There will likely be a bolt threaded into the hole. On an NA, there is no threaded hole.

Also, you are not able to run port actuators on a TII engine as it is a 4 port engine. If you see port actuators you have an NA engine. Two easiest ways to tell at first glance.

So it looks like I have the port actuators, but they are not hooked up to any lines? Is it possible an NA lower manifold is being used?

Right here looks like this is the return line capped off, correct?

And I believe this is where the feed line should be tapped. Does this look like someone welded it shut or is this how NA engines come from factory?

That's an NA manifold, which bolts to a turbo block. The ports do not match up though. So the 6-port system isn't going to function even if it were hooked up.

Correct, that's a turbo front cover with the drain blocked off.

Front iron is an NA. The center iron is also NA since it has a blockoff for the NA EGR valve.

Maybe it has turbo rotors, but everything points to it being an NA. If that's the case, it would actually be worse than running NA rotors due to the lower compression ratio.

Thanks for clearing it up, it seems someone hacked this thing together to get it (barely) running.

Question sense he may have t2 rotors

If he has T2 rotors in a NA does that mean it’s possibly or at least more easier to turbo sense he doesn’t have to worry about the high compression NA rotors? Yeah I know you would still have to do the other stuff like intake manifolds and etc. but just wanting to know.

Yes, using turbo rotors eliminates the biggest risk of turbocharging an NA
