Turbo 13b-msp

I know the renesis does not work well with force induction due to the restricted exhaust port. Is their anyway you could almost make a hybrid and have the 13b-msp with housings from a 13b rew or s5 (something like that.) I'm only going to be doing this because trying to find any good 13b shortblock thats doesn't cost thousands of dollars seems impossible, and the 13b-msp goes for a lot cheaper. Needless to say I'm desperate to get my hands on any twin rotor I can turbo lol.

"How to use this Site" is probably not the best place to post a question like this.

The short answer is yes .. in fact it's been done many times before. You can do a search and find members that have done it .. or are currently doing it.

You can also find various YouTube videos as well.

The first challenge you will run into is that the 13B Renesis has the coolant seal jackets in the rotor housings (similar to the FB 13B GSL-SE) .. while the FC and FD have the coolant seal jackets in the irons. So you will need to use FB 13B GSL-SE rotor housings which are still available.

The second challenge is that the 13B Renesis is physically longer (same volumetric size internally) .. which will require some fabrication , as well as some sort of fuel management system, custom intake, custom exhaust etc.

The third challenge you will run into is that the 13B Renesis uses high compression rotors (which aren't ideal for turbo applications). You will either have to source low compression rotors from an FC or FD .. or limit the amount of boost you can feed the engine.

You should bank on spending $10k - $20k depending on how many new/used parts you need to buy .. and how much of the fabrication/engine building you can do yourself.

Ouch, I was hoping for that method to be cheaper but I'm definitely wrong :/ In your opinion what would be the cheapest way get my hands on a 13bt shortblock. Most I can find is over $5000. Thanks for any help, I'm still relatively new to the rotary community.

Yup, you joined the rotary game a few years too late. All the used parts market has dried up, driving up prices. Plus most in the game already hoarded all the parts.

If you’re serious, you’ll have to pay to play. Gone are the days of $250 blown t2 engines.

I’d think the cheapest is a 6 port turbo with turbo rotors (if you can find them), full rebuild with in spec housings and irons.

look, it doesn’t work.

the only remotely successful attempt was by Kyle Mohan and his development only ever made low 400 whp and had absolutely nothing below 5000 rpm before he dumped it to go back to the earlier engines. He’ll be glad to sell you one though, because some people will sell anything to make a buck; that’s why they’re in business to begin with. Despite what people view to be similarities, the Renesis/MSP engine is fundamentally different than the earlier engines. It’s designed around a no-overlap porting concept and the moment you add overlap; which is exactly what adding a peripheral exhaust port does, it kills the entire intake design concept.

People just keep going on and on with this idea, mostly the people who really don’t understand what they’re doing. Stuff doesn’t just work magically like a virtual software fantasy experience. There are sound engineering design principles that determine success or failure. There have been many of these engines built over the last 12 years and there are no real successful, repeatable, verifiable results beyond a bunch of blah blah blah poop coming out of their butt dyno hole. That never seems to impress on people though. There’s no secret sauce on this idea. It’s really this simple; the emperor has no clothes.

It’s all well discussed and explained in detail over on RX8Club if you really want to know.

Right, I had a good idea that this would be impossible or super expensive to do. I'll just keep searching for a decent deal on a 13b shortblock to put in my T2, I'm only trying to make around 300-350 whp with a borg s366. I didn't really realize how fundamentally different the rensis was compared to earlier gen motors. Thanks for letting me know.
