Tune Up

Hello fellow rotary enthusiasts! well im doing a full 60k tune like the FAQ says but had a few questions that i was unsure of. I was wondering what kind of tansmission oil and differential oil to go with, i know that it should be 80w-90 for both but i was wondering brand names i should use? i was gonna go with royal purple for both but wasnt quite sure. i was also wondering where the pulsation damper was since i have never dealt with one before. I drive a base model 1987 rx N/A so any help would be appreciated

Royal Purple is fine.

PD is located at the rear of the primary fuel rail.

The downloadable FSM found at http://foxed.ca/index.php?page=rx7manual will likely answer many of your other questions.

I personally would prefer amsoil or redline as they have a much higher group rating. While more difficult to find, you will notice a much longer lasting component with its use. If you are looking for an off the shelf oil I'd go with mobil 1 synthetic. Royal purple seems to me like a bunch of overpriced hype with nothing to actually back it up. Check out the ratings on the back of a quart of RP and you'll notice that they are rated as I believe an SP oil which is low for a performance oil. Also they do not have the sae starburst symbol on the front. If you want more info on oil comparison a quick google search will provide you with many options that are within your price range. Cheers!

I'm betting the 2nd Gen. FSM requires a GL-4 or GL-5 rated gear oil in 75w-90 flavor. Royal Purple will be fine, as would any number of other brands.
