BC Trouble starting cold

I have an '83 rx-7 I recently bought it's giving me trouble starting in the morning, or after it has sat for a while. It turns over fine, but takes a long time to fire, and even then it doesn't spring to life but gives a few false starts. Then I have to keep my foot into it because it dies if I'm not giving it gas (I've had it die a few times between 1st and second). It idles really low, like between 0 and 500 rpm if the tach is right, when cold too. Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks

As far as I've been told, my car in particular (87 FC) has issues starting in the cold. I know that I have to start the car in neutral and give it a couple of revs on a cold morning. I don't think that will solve your problem from your explanation but you can try that.

Aside from that, perhaps you have a bad throttle position sensor. I know that I have to replace mine.

I think for some reason the car just isn't getting enough fuel. That and I need to increase the idle. I'll be stopping at my Dad's shop this weekend so I'll have a look while I'm there.
