Exclamation trans issue

Ok so I have a serious issue that I hope isn't as seriois as I think. My car is stuck in reverse but the shifter is in neutral. It allows me to go into first and second gear but even when i do so the reverse lights are still on. If I release the clutch in either first or second the car just shuts off (doesn't jump as if its in gear) but it stalls out. If I put the car in neutral it allows ne to drive in reverse. Also it won't let me go into third, fourth, fifth, or reverse. This happened when I was sitting in the car while it was off just going through the gears with my foot on the clutch (I was bored and waiting for a parking. Stupid move in my behalf I guess). What can this issue be? Will i need a trans rebuild? Am i better off just buying a new trans?? Help me out, I don't like to see my baby in pain!!

Not sure how they are set up inside but it sounds like you have wear on the shifter and related parts and the shifter is out of it's proper position . If you remove the stick you should be able to see what has happened

I still think that the shifter rails are out of alignment because of wear or aggressive shifting . let us know whats up when they let you know ..

Ok so I passed by the shop and saw my trans on a table. Turns out it was a linkage problem and a bad bushing. The linkage shaft that connects to the box that holds the shift **** fell out of place and got jammed and stuck somewhere it obviously didn't belong at the time. Also they don't sell the bushing I need so they are going to custom make one for me out of teflon. I should have her back this week. hopefully.
