ive only noticed this happens in 1st 2nd and 5th gear. when you put it into first gear i sometimes accidently push it un and to the left too far. and then it will get stuck and scare me because it wont come out of first gear. im also able to to this same thing in 2nd. and when i shift into 5th the shifter will go way over to the right and up. also in sure if its related but every now and then i have to slip it to get it to shift into reverse. i want to know what is causing this problem so i know how to fix it. its kind of annoying. i was thinking the shift bushings but not sure. hopefully not a tranny issue

 

It sounds like the shifter bushing is letting the ball at the bottom poping out of the socket.

Just order some new shifter bushings from Mazdatrixs or Mazda

Also, 5th gear is supposed to feel "way over to the right".
