tranny and clutch q's

well after putting in a new clutch my car no longer needs the clutch depressed when starting, and the tranny also runs when in neutrel unpressed clutch. i dont now about what happened. the tranny has a slight whine that disapears in 3 and up gears. it not like a grinding but more like a motor boat engine ive been told. its a 86 na.

the 86 never had a clutch start switch to begin with so you will never need to depress the clutch pedal to start the engine. the whine is most likely worn bearings on first and second gear. did you make sure the fluid level in the trans was up to the fill plug hole?

well when i first changed the clutch o reillys told me it took 1.8 liters to fill the tranny so i bought sythetic gear lube 75-90. then when i did the change it didnt seem like that was enough in the tranny so i put some 75-90 i had at home but it was regualr not sythetic. i then changed my oils in my car and drained the 2.5 quarts that i had in the tranny and replaced it with 2-2.5 quarts of sythetic 75-90. now that i have changed it this time it stoped tugging so much at low rpm. i am not shure if its to the fill plug hole but i can check next time i have her up to change the drive shaft.

get the car level when you jack it up and check and make sure the fluid level in the trans is to the bottom of the fill plug. if it runs out, its overfilled and you need to let it drain out until the fluid is at the proper level.

when I take the driveshaft out you will spill some of the transmission fluid so be prepared to catch it.
