Unfortunately, I think that is pretty much the going rate for a new TPS.

The car is 23 years old now, so you should expect to buy a LOT of new parts to keep it in good shape. For comparison, my 88 convertible has been averaging $245/month in repairs and scheduled maintenance, and I do most of the labor myself.

Try the classified section for a used TPS. You can save a lot over a brand new one.

Evie_Eve, are you sure it's the TPS that needs to be replaced? Not trying to knock your skills or anything, but chances are that it could very well be something different. On my own 87 GXL, it runs excessively rich because the Auxiliary intake ports don't open (opened by exhaust pressure from main cat) because my cats rusted through and was ghetto-fabbed together by the previous owner. My buddy ObliqueFD and I spent plenty of time messing with the TPS trying to correct the rich mixture, only for it to dawn on us about the Aux ports and cats.

To give you an idea of what I mean, I can rev to 5-6k and it'll shoot flames a foot long out of both mufflers. If you haven't already, grab the Factory Service Manual and follow the TPS adjustment procedure in it. And if it is bad, check the 2nd gen Parts for sale section. I'm sure someone will give you a great deal on it.
