Thumbs up Thinking of buying an RX7

Well folks, new here and looking a bit of advice.

I went to look at a 93 RX7 tonight. The car looked really clean and the owner said it had an engine rebuild in 2006, he told me there was 54000 on the clock, but the miles arent showing... he has reciept for the rebuild.

I don't really know a lot about rotary engines. When I took the oil cap off there was white on the cap, but a mechanic who was with me said it could just be because the car hasnt been driven in a while. The engine isnt overheating, I took it a good blast and left it sitting for around 10 mins and the gauge stayed OK.

The other thing was it struggled to start, it started on the third or fourth time and but once it was going everything seemed fine.

When it was boosting it was a bit jerky but could the car just need warmed up to get boosting properly??

Bodywork and interior are mint.

Any help appreciated folks, I'm new to the whole rotary thing

There should never be white on the cap, Be very carefull. Look into it more before impulse kicks in and tells you to buy it. I know in the oil if water gets in the oil thats why its white. So my suggestion is wipe the cap and run it good to see if the white goop returns!

There is buyers guide info in the 3rd gen faq.

If you study what's in there you'll shed the newbieness pretty quickly.

That said, the goo under the oil cap is usually no problem. The bigger issues to look for are good engine compression and no exhaust gasses coming into the coolant. So I recommend having a good rotary shop check this out for you before you pay for the car.

nice ride but get that compression checked if its having problems with boost. the getting trouble with starting can be two things. 1.... its been sitting for a while or 2.... compression. so having it checked would be smart b4 u buy

Have you made a decision yet? That is a beautiful car but its kinda scary the fact that someone wants to be getting rid of it. Like there could be some underlying problems or something. It seems cheap too but I don't know how the money converts.
