Thinking of buying but have some questions
I think I'm going to buy an Rx-7 this summer but first i have a couple of questions. I figure I'll start with a yes or no question. I want a 1st gen Rx-7 and have been told the 13b is the way to go the only problem is that it would seem it is is a fuel injected engine and i plan on modding, which is easy with a carb especially since my dad used to own a shop that specializes in them. So my question is, can you change the engine to be carburated? Now for a harder question, If so could you give me an idea of whats involved in doing it?

The fuel injection is exactly one of the reasons you would want the larger 13B. Nothing wrong with the 12As of course, except that parts are getting a bit hard to find and they are all carbureted.
What are you planning to do as far as modifications? Certainly it is easier to make large peak power numbers on a carb simply because it costs a bit more to upgrade the EFI system then it does to swap on an aftermarket carb and intake. But what you lose is the drivability, midrange, and the ease at which you can move to forced induction.
Then again, I'm against carbs. They belong on lawnmowers and chainsaws.

I've always loved carbs, but then again I'm not exactly coming from an impartial environment. Still i see where you're coming from, if it wasn't for the added cost associated with modding ECU's EFI wouldn't have a single downfall in my book.
For my mods i was thinking a street port, full exhaust and intake, or something along those lines. I'm aiming for about 200whp.

Carburetors
Any Fuel Injected engine can be converted to a carburetor. Its just a matter of getting the manual for the Rx-7 you get, and stripping away all the electronics that are part of the fuel injection. Then buy a carb and a manifold. At the very worst, you would have to strip the motor of all wiring and start over. Many many 13b's are run and built with carburetors, so parts are out there and available.

All of the vendors sell the manifolds and kits you need to carburete the engine. After that, it depends on what year vehicle it is. All the 2nd gens are fuel injected so you need to swap pumps and convert to a distributer (using 1st gen stuff). Some of the 1st gens (GSL-SE) were injected but still had a dizzy.
Thanks guy, upon doing a bit more research I have found more to do with it. I think i was expecting to find a page explaining all about it but didn't because its not complicated enough to warrant such a page.
