IL Things to look for when buying a rotery?

I am in the market for a decent SA or FB. I am deffinatly interested in a running one. which prompts the question, What are some of the things I should be looking at with these cars. My first rx started and ran fine, untill you got to 5000 rpm and then it would let out a Steam/Smoke cloud that would make James Bond Proud. Of course the seller never mentioned it, If he knew. I was a lot younger and had no Idea what could possibly be wrong, so I lived with it till I eventually sold the car Full disclosure of course. I dont mant to fall into this problem again. So what is the best things to look for to tell the over all condision of a prospective purchase. Thank you
