Sunroof removal?

I have a 1987 model with what I understand is a common problem... the sunroof is getting rusted with holes in it... is there a fix for this short of finding a unrusted one? and how can you remove it to work on it?
Thanks

are you trying to remove the whole panel or the whole sunroof all together?

I have no idea.... I assume the whole sunroof is one piece... don't think you can seperate the outer skin from the rest of it.... or can you?

I'm sort of going through the same thing right now. When I bought the car, there were several rust bubbles that have now broken down over time and exposed actual holes. I opted to buy a new (used) roof (just can't install it yet). Short of getting a replacement, the only thing I can see to address a rusted sunroof is sheet-metal work (cutting, welding, etc.).

Having not removed mine yet, I can't tell you what to do. However, I can direct you to a source. Get a copy of the FSM from Foxed.ca and look up the procedure to remove it.

The VBulletin search engine sucks. When you're searching use google. Use the "site:" function. An example of searching for 2nd gen stuff, you would type this into the search bar: site:https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...-1986-1992-17/ how to remove the sunroof

Found this quote from Styx

Remove the A pillar and Windshield trim.Remove the Rear view mirror/interior light assembly..Basically remove all trim associated with the headliner.Remove the trim around the Sunroof Hole..then Remove the Headliner.you will see that the Sunroof skeleton is supported by ten nuts/bolts..undo those and presto!, it is out..It IS heavy..and make sure you got a hold of it..or you will be BONKED in the head!

I found a Youtube video on how to separate the top sheet metal from the actual workings of the sunroof so it can be worked on... thanks for the link to Foxed.ca I did not know there was such a place with all this information...
Thanks for your help!

It's simple to remove the sunroof panel. Open the sunroof then you pop off headliner panel. I think you the front is held in with push clips, and then you back pulls forward.
Then you'll see six bolts holding it onto the track. Remove those, lift off.

There are some video on youtube.
This one helped me.
