Anyone have a good starting point to figure out why sunroof will not operate?

Like the window and light switches, the sunroof is a high current switch. The contacts will get carbon coated from arching. I would investigate with a multimeter and see if you're getting voltage both in and out of the switch, that's the easiest way to begin.

+1 , I'd start with the simplest fix first if u haven't checked already. Especially if your not getting in sound or anything from the sunroof.

Examine the ground too. It's often left out of diagnosing electrical gremlins despite it being as important as the fused 12v+ side of the circuit. Download the Factory Service Manual from Foxed.ca to find where the Sunroof circuit(s) are grounded at. Anything over 1 ohm when measured for continuity back to the battery negative terminal qualifies as a bad ground.

Also, it would be greatly beneficial to list the generation/specs of your car in order to avoid incorrect advice by accident. While most of us can 'deduce' it based on certain symptoms, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
