strange starting issues
Hello. I have a 1990 na, gtu, all stock. Only had the cat about a month. So far ive tackled a few electrical issues and the 5th and 6th port actuators that i still dunno if i have right or not. Anyway, when i go to start my car, it seems the cold start high rpm only works when it feels like it. And sometimes when i go to start the car, it will turn over a few times, say 3-4, sound like it wont start, but ill let off the key, turn it back to start it and it starts fine. Any ideas on this strange thing? Ive replaced the plugs but still have to get to the fuel filter and check the fuel pump filter(sock).

Hope not the compression, it runs really strong, and runs well other than a few things i just need to get out there and test. Like no domelight, door dinger, cargo light. Map lights work. I still have yet to change the fuel filter and check the pump to see if the sock is full of muck. I also think i need to do some resoldering in the cpu, its on my hitlist as well. Also the seatbelt actuators that dont slide back and fourth irritate me as well. The motor is really clean and it looks as though all the fuel and vacuum lines have been replaced at one time. Even acouple new parts like alittle solenoid looking thing to the left of the tps has been replaced, dunno what it is, lol. I had an 88 back in my younger days, i used to love just taking off and throwing it in 2nd and chirping the tires. I was curious as to if this one i have now would do it since someone had put aftermarket 17s on it. Well it does, lol. I love it. I wish i could beat my buddy in his souped up civic but unfortunatly i dont think that will happen unless i decide to juice it and that would be a really big if.

Try this for flooding an RX-7
You need to pull the engine comp. relay out of the engine relay box located on the drivers side fender under the hood. Pull this and let the car set for 2 mins. After doing so crank the engine no more than 3 times. This will reset the computer and makes it think all fuel and oxygen mix is at 0. Replace the relay and the car should start. You may have to do this a time or two. Lots of white smoke will come out of the engine for a bit, but this will stop once the car gets going good.
I have bought a few RX-7's that people say are not functioning and are dead and this was the only problem. This is a really common problem in the 2nd gen. models. On 1st gen. this the engine comp relay was set up differently and 3rd gen. the system was redesigned.
Hope this helps.
