Strange behavior at acceleration

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping one of the experts can help me out with this. I bought my '88 vert new back in the day, and I've done some pretty extensive maintenance on it over the years so I'm not a rookie to working on it. This time around I was doing all the stuff you should... new belts, hoses, etc. Some of the smaller hoses are pretty tough to get at and I ended up pulling the dynamic chamber to get at them. I've got everything back together, but now I've got a strange issue. It starts fine and seems to idle ok, though the idle is a little lower than normal once it settles down to idle speed. If I try to give it a little gas though, it'll go up to about 1500, drop to around 900, back to 1500, etc.

One problem I did have was that I somehow broke the nipple off what I think is the solenoid switching valve (part # AESA127-2, 3rd one from the left as you face the engine from the driver's side, gray connector). I super glued it back on, but that's the only thing I can think of that was out of the ordinary, though I did have some trouble getting the throttle and cruise cables back on correctly. I think those are ok now though.

Here's the question... if the solenoid is bad (maybe plugged or something), would it cause this kind of behavior? Can I just bypass it or do I need to replace it or what?

Thanks in advance for any help.
