Something weird with the oil

The other day I was running a bunch of errands and I noticed a strong smell of oil after I left the last store I went to, and also the oil pressure gauge was way low. I didn't notice exactly, but it seemed like the gauge was low at low speeds or idling, and when I gave it some gas it went back up. I looked underneath, and nothing was leaking...

And I just got an oil change last week, too.

Another thing, the guy I bought the car from (FC vert) texted me and was like, hey I have a bunch of "hard to find parts for the car encluding [sic] K & M filter cleaning kit, a cpu, 2 finders, 2 switchs, 2 rear berrings [sic], 1 drivers side mirror and some other little things make me an offer." I have no idea what most of that is besides the mirror and cpu... how much is that stuff worth? Is it a good idea to get them?

Smell of oil.... Could be the engine burning oil (worn oil control rings), could be the normal rotary fumes you are not used to and the car has no catalytic converter. Otherwise, if the engine bay looks squeaky clean, nothing to worry about, just keep an eye on the oil level. Check especially the drivers side area and hoses next to the oil filter area.

As far as price for the parts. I would offer maybe $100 at most or slightly over for EVERYTHING. But that would depend on what fender, stock or aftermarket, and condition. If you don't need it, don't buy it is my mentality. Look in the classifieds section for ideas on pricing but I think my estimate is about right.

Most quikie oil shops use house drum oil, 10w30. You should be running 20w50. Thinner oil will also flow faster throught the oil injectors. Just pull out a pn drain the oil and refill with 20w50. Should solve your problems. Let us know how it goes.

Normal. Sould be about 60 psi at around 3K rpm and higher. Idle can run 30 psi or even lower.

They did use 5w30. Probably should have specified... according to the manual I should be running 10w30 in this weather. Is 20w50 really necessary? Seems a little on the other extreme.

oil change is too easy not to do it urself. should know what ur pressure normally is long before u smell a problem. so now u don't know what the pressure was before hand.

Yeah, IMO, 20w50 is a bit of overkill unless you are running track events in mid-summer. I run it in my track car during hot weather but change to 10w40 for cooler weather.
