are you referring to a v-mount? A v-mount allows the intercooler and radiator to each get a share of fresh incoming air. front mount ICs compromise radiator performance and stock mounts just don't fit as well. The downside to v-mount is the extra effort required.

not V mounts, im seeing people who usually have fmics stand their radiators up. so they sit like other cars. instead of laying down in the stock position

krayton i've seen that done ,they mounted the radiator where a front mount intercooler would go then mounted the intercooler in the place where the radiator was in a v mount. so the radiator gets full cooling benefit ,also the intercooler being futher away from engine heat. its very effecient . the only downside is the radiator is vulnerable to damage like rocks etc.

thats a regular radiator. whats stand up about it?

v mount also reduces boost lag and pressure drops because the piping is minimal.

i get what a v-mount is.

but i thought the stock location for the radiator in FDs lays down almost horizontally

That's true. The stock radiator lays on an angle. The first picture shows a FMIC installation - perhaps the radiator is vertical to improve fitment with the intercooler in there.

In any case the first pic has no ducting shown to make air flow through the radiator. That greatly reduces cooling and should never be done. Stock ducting is ok but can be improved by sealing the gaps. Aftermarket radiator installation without ducting is a total fail.
