NJ smoking exhaust after replacing front cover gasket

so i replaced my front cover gasket and oil pan gasket and previously the car didnt smoke on the first startup smoke was pouring out of the exhaust and i noticed my cat was glowing red. replaced the cats and there is still some smoke its like a grey color but i dont think its coolant. could this be a timing isue or maybe something with my metering pump any ideas i need some input please

You may have knocked something loose while working on it. A glowing cat could very well indicate a loss of the leading ignition, or a lean fuel mixture. I'd start by confirming spark at the plugs and then go from there.

Or your dizzy/CAS is stabbed incorrectly. Check timing...

i put new plugs in but i guess i gotta try and move the crank angle sensor i put it back the way it was but i guess i should play with it a little. is there any kind of timing light i can use to adjust it accordingly?

Yes, a normal timing light should be used to check timing. There isn't a special light for a rotary, but you should follow the procedure in the FSM or a Haynes manual.
