What year car are you working on? For 1stgens, this "modification" has a 50/50 success rate...it seems like almost all of the "Help, I can't get it to idle right!" threads in the 1stgen tech section are started right after someone decides to remove the rat's nest thinking they're going to get some kind of HP gain...lol...seriously.

You can make 135 HP at the flywheel with all that in place and a poorly tuned STOCK Nikki carburetor. This is a known fact.

You should really post what year/model your car is. Your profile says you have an '89 vert, so if that's the case...

DO NOT remove the air pump. S5s use the air pump to activate the aux ports and the VDI. You will lose 40hp if you take it off.

Same goes for the air control valve (ACV). The nipples for the aux ports and VDI actuators are on it.

If you still have a cat, you need the pump. No cat = no pump.

If it's not costing HP and so many systems depend on it, I'd take this guy's advice to heart...again, it seems like every "Help, my car won't idle!" or "Help! My car is sucking gasoline!!" thread that pops up all starts with the person removing the rat's nest and emission components as one of their first "mods"....get familiar with your car and all of its bits before trying to modify such a crucially, inter-related part of the engine. Running down vacuum leaks will become a specialty right after you try to go ahead and do this anyway. Everyone commenting has definitely been-there-done-that...

With an 89, you are going to have problems if you remove the pump. IF you do remove it, you will have to figure out a way to open your aux ports. If you don't you are going to lose power, read the posts above.

Turbo engines only use the air pump to feed air to the cat, so if you swap, you can remove the air pump and all emissions if you want.

If you do pull the airpump, you will also need to put a double pulley on the alternator & run 2 belts on the water pump/alternator. If you don't do this, the water pump will cavitate under heavy load.

No, 4 ports and no variable intake runners. It would make little difference on a forced induction motor.

nope. you don't need a tuned intake when you are cramming 7-15 lbs of air into the works :p
if you do remove the rats nest on a turbo swap you still need to keep the fuel regulator and map vac lines for it to run right.
