Short trips/ reliability of enging
Hi guys, wanted an honest opinion on daily drivers. I have a 1980 RX 7 body, and 1989 Turbo EFI engine with microtech. I have another daily driver. The engine has been blown in the car for about three years now and has been sitting idle because of funds. Now have the choice/ability to do something. Before I rebuild it as is I wanted to know how many use it as a daily driver and if it is any more unreliable than piston engine's. I have heard that Rx7's don't like short trips and others completely deny it. Thought this would be the place to get some advice.

It's all how you maintain it and how you drive it. I've had friends with 150k+ on theirs and use them as daily drivers. If you dog it, well it's not gonna take it forever. I think if you stick to the maintenance schedule (from your manual) you'll be fine. I think the whole unreliability of rotary nonsense comes from people not maintaining the car properly.

if it's built right, broke in and maintained properly it will last. u can't expect any engine to last too long if ur ******* it all the time. it's been bout 5 yrs now since i built mine. driven every single day(only car i own) and the mileage so far is in the 60k range. what hurts these engines is when ppl quite driving them and they sit for yrs on end. especially when they get well into the 100k range.
