Search Fail: Checkin' the oil
Being a lazy Merkin, I always use the "eyeball/dipstick" method.
The JDM method is probably more accurate but I rarely have access to the required amounts of raw tuna and micrometers.

maybe that was the answer the op was looking for?
Why does everyone else have to be a dick? The op obviosly doesnt know much about cars so why not help him?

That leaves the valid question of what other method he was wondering about.
checkin the oil is something you learn from reading a basic car manual and if he doesn't know how to do that then he didn't spend much time or effort trying to figure it out. I'll be the first guy to try to help new people (I'm no expert myself) with basic questions but that was a serious fail in terms of effort on his part.
Sticking your hand into a running engine should send out all kind of warning sounds in your head, as should working on a car on an incline.
I don't think people are so much being dicks as wondering wth he's talking about.
My method is valid too
Little more effort involved tho
