SC SAFC and Tranny Questions

I own an '88 NA and had a few questions about AFM.

I have an SAFCI and usually have it set to 3% rich mixture for safety, but get about 17-19 mpg...

I was wondering what I could do to improve MPG, but not lose my safety range.

Also, I get this bucking in low gears almost as if I'm in the wrong gear. It only happens when I try to hold a constant cruising speed ( looking for a parkingt spot...) and during deceleration.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Msb.

The bucking can be caused by a poorly adjusted, or faulty, TPS sensor.

As for your SAFC you can 'detune' the fuel settings quite a bit and still be on the safe side. Personally I have my own SAFC-II settings running from -17% fuel at idle to -3% at 8k rpm's. Im seeing roughly 20-23 mpg with a heavy foot. My car and mods are in my signature if you need a comparison.

if you get a wideband a/f gauge then you can re-tune your afc if things are running too rich. you can even see if your cruise a/f ratio is too rich , so then you could lean it out some and achieve somewhat better mileage

Thanks guys, but as of now the TPS and mpg's are the least of my worries, my lighting has quit working... time for some searching and a new thread!
