S5 Turbo II Transmission Gears

Hey guys,

I blew my transmission a few weeks back. I was on the highway headed home, using cruise control to save gas, and my transmission started buzzing for about 5 seconds and then went kapoof. I lost everything but 4th gear. This past week I got to crack it open to see what was up. I lost the countershaft and the main drive gear. Where the gears were are bald as an egg. Do you guys know of any place that would have those 2 parts? I really don't want to buy another transmission, especially since it would be used and just as likely to blow. Mazda told me good luck. I have a kit to rebuild bearings and synchros and if I got the new transmission, I would rebuild it anyway just in case. I may be paranoid but everything breaks on this rx7 and I could have bought a brand new one for all the spare parts I've put in it. I'm wanting to autocross this car, but more importantly drive it because I'm paying insurance on it to sit in my garage. So to recap, looking for main drive gear (attached to input shaft) and the countershaft for an '89 S5 Turbo II. If you guys can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I have a '71 charger I would like to start on but I have to finish working on my favorite first.

Thanks,
Matt

Sounds like a nice project. I unfortunately don't have anything to offer so free bump.
PS Where did you get your rebuild kit? My 2nd gear sync is going out and I would like a really nice, smooth transmission.

Hey bud, appreciate the bump. I ended up ordering a used transmission for about $850. I found the gears for about $1500 for the pair. I also checked to see if those parts were in a different transmission, and the early fd's had the same gear ratios. I wonder how much different the parts are or if I can stick the FD gears in.

The place I got the rebuild kit from was called Transparts Warehouse. You can look them up. They have some of these kits posted on ebay for sale.
