RX7 Tranny Question
Hey,
I just wanted to know how much power the Turbo-II and the FD tranny can handle? And how do they handle that much power.
I've seen some RX7's that make super power on the stock transmission (which I think it amazing), because for some other cars, transmissions are already done past 300hp.

They are reliable until about the mid 400s in street use. After that they start to get broken more easily.
Drag racing, all bets are off. Big power and issues like wheel hop are murder on the drivetrain. Then again, there are 10 second cars running the stock transmission.

Stock transmission up to 400?
That's amazing. Props to Mazda on that, lol.
I'm coming from a Subaru background and the WRX tranny's are like glass.. Past 300, and you might start worrying, lol. But the STi tranny on the other hand is bullet proof.
Thanks for the information guys!

Open up a R type (TII/FD) transmission and you'll be surprised at what you see. It is very overbuilt. The same transmission was used in the RX-3, RX-4, RX-5 as a well as a few others. Kind of shifts like a truck (that's where Mazda lifted it from) but is quite strong and easy to service.

many transmissions can safely handle 300hp+ but it's the manner of which they are maintained and used that can ultimately make them handle different amounts of tolerance.
There should be an official figure however there are too many variables to consider.
To operate in the 350hp range i'd think you'd be fine aslong as you take care of it as per usual.
