It runs !!!! rough...

Here's some info before i get to it... My car is a 84 rx7 GS first time running after 5 years of sitting. The 12a was installed in 2002 and only has about 1000 miles on it. I can turn the engine over by hand with the plugs in. well i got my car running last night. When its at idle it spits and hisses (not backfire). When i bring the rpms up it bogs out and then proceeds to stay at a smooth high idle (3000rpm) then on the decell it hisses and spits constantly. I was told plugging the shutter valve helps eliminate the backfire issue so i did that. I quickly refereed to my Haynes and the possible faults read: timing could be off, air control valve etc. I did want to remove my rats nest because i found a great tutorial on mazspeed. Although im skeptical now. If i remove the emissions controls... would that increase the rough idle or worsen it ? Contrary to that i DO want to remove it some time. I figured the bog could be my fuel filter so i changed it. and the bog is still there. Thanks for any help and tips !!!!

check the vacuum lines/hoses. you probably have a leak.

back to square one.. damn ! no start, just cranks. All plugs have tons of spark, its getting fuel. Has to be an air solenoid/valve vacuum or something.. I checked my idle adjust screw and its wide open. I'm still very unfamiliar with the car since its the 1st rotary I've owned.

I still think it's a vacuum leak, but obviously it will be harder to find it if you can't get the engine to fire. did you ever mess with the timing?

do you have a copy of the FSM in addition to your Haynes? start from scratch with the carburetor adjustments.

No i have never messed with the timing. When i 1st wanted to turn it over last week i set the yellow mark on the pulley, just to be as close with my timing as possible weather its set bang on or not. With the vacuum leak, after it was running there was a lot of suction sounds coming from the air cleaner. I took the air cleaner off and checked as many lines/hoses as i could get my hands on. There are some that look quite out dated and need to be replaced. Mainly the larger hose coming off the ACV going down over my thermal reactor to the back of the block. As for the carb, it was rebuilt 5 years ago (Mazda dealer) at the same time the new crate 12a was installed. Just before the car began to sit. Although, its clean and so far the internals seems to work fine. How its tuned could be another issue as you said. I'm going to pull my carb off, grab my Haynes and pull up some of Sterling's threads and see what i can do !
