Rough Shift?

Hey Guys,

I'm a little confused as to what can be going on with my car. Keep in mind the transmission was rebuilt by Mazda. When I go to shift in and out of second gear it has been difficult to do so. Within the last two days I'm noticed the shifter has been getting tough going towards 1st and 2nd gear. I took off the shifter and noticed that there are some broken pieced there. If I get a shifter rebuild kit, would this fix my issue? There is no grinding going in and out of gear and the clutch is not sticking.

How long ago was it rebuilt? Pics of the broken pieces?

My transmission is currently being rebuilt as my synchros wore out.

My symptoms were about the same, wouldn't easily slide between gears (2nd to 1st would only happen if I was pretty much stopped, 3rd to 2nd started getting tough). I found double clutching helped slide gears more easily.

But yeah, pics of The broken pieces would be great. Whatever you do, don't force your shifts or you could do some much more costly damage

I'll try the double clutching to see if it helps. The transmissions was rebuilt about 20k miles ago but it's been about 10+ years since it was done. The car was my stepdads car and he barely drove it. It looks to be the washers that are broken so I don't think that would be the cause of what's going on. Frustrating!

The factory collar that snaps onto the bottom of the shifter is plastic. If thats broken/missing then it may give you problems. https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/9...0-02-9402.html

Your profile lists a S5. Consider just buying the shifter rebuild kit. https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/8...tegory_id=1270
Then change the gear oil and see what you get. Odd that it's only 2nd gear. Depending on speed, down-shifting into first can require some patience or rev-matching. That's not unusual.
