Revving Problems

I'll try and explane as well as I can whats going on lately with my 93 Rx7 Efini. For a little bit now my rx7 has been drving funny, what I mean is when I step on the gas it revvs high but dosent feel like im picking up the speed to match it. Thought it might be a tracktion problem since my BS potenzas are at 3/32 but I dont feel as if I and losing tracking. It dosent feel right to step on it and have my rmp sky rocket and not have the acceleration to match it. Would it be my twin turbos, or maybe engine is about to go? Oil? someone please help since she is my baby!

Your clutch is probably worn out and slipping badly under load.

Maybe not the best way but an easy one is to try to make a burnout. Rev it to 4-5k rpm and declutch, if the rear tire dont spinout, you clutch slip very bad.

If it can slip AT ALL when fully engaged, it's time to replace it. You'll be getting down to the rivets and tearing up the flywheel soon after.

Hey guys looking for a new clutch and not all 100% sure on my knowledge of clutches. I have a Friend selling an XTR racing clutch kit stage 3 and he only wants $300 for it, it was for his 93 Rx7 but is was a right off before he could put it in. Is this a GOOD good clutch to buy he said its rated for 500hp and like 450ft/lbs of torque or is it gonna be to much for my pretty much stock Efini Twin Turbo with minor minute mods done?

I have a stage 3 clutch on my nearly stock FD and i dont like it.... the clutch pedal is very hard and there is no way to make a smooth start. In fact my clutch is a 6 puck ceramic so if the one you plan to buy is a plain organic, i think you may like it.

If you not plan to modifyyour car beyond 350whp, consider a stage two clutch.

Good luck

I don't have any experience with XTR, but that kit comes with a 6 puck clutch (doesn't sound like a sprung clutch either). That's not the best thing for driving on public streets. The clutch engagement will be harsh. Combine that with a lightweight flywheel (if you decide to) and you'll end up having to slip the clutch a lot more on the street to drive smoothly.

I would recommend something like the ACT Street/Strip clutch if you can find them in your area. It comes with a stronger pressure plate, but an OEM based clutch disc. This means you get the extra clamping force needed for increased horsepower, but without the harsh clutch engagement of a puck disc.

You might think about a flywheel change at this time. It won't be any increase in labor while doing the clutch change.
