Question 1985 rx7 12a

so i purchased an 1985 rx7 and its having an issue keeping up to with 60 on freeways. first gear almost wants to kill itself at the start but doesn't, then shifting second threw fourth about 5000 to 6000 rpm mark starts to bog itself down as if its loosing power or possibly compression. could this be the apex seals?

When you are trying to get advice, never offer up your idea of the answer or that's what peeps will pursue. Just describe the problem the best you can and then ask, "can anyone help me?" and that's it.

I had a similar problem when I finally got my '83 back on the road after it sat for 11 months w/o even being started. I drained the gas and then it would at least stumble idle. I replaced a known bad coil and that returned the idle to almost normal. It took two days of normal driving to finally unstick the vacuum secondary mechanisms and then I had full power back and my normal idle returned. It ran on two barrels of the carb for two days and I hated it. Going up a hill on the interstate saw me go from 70 to 65 to 60 mph in short order in 5th gear. I had to drop a gear and then it barely could get to 62 mph.

Let's see what everyone else has got to say. I'm thinking fuel or fuel delivery, possibly a clogged catalytic converter, which has been the culprit so many times, it's not even funny. "Nope, it's not that, I checked the cats," and then they eat the crow pie a month later when they finally take the exhaust system apart.
