IL Reverse Light Switch

My original reverse light switch failed in my 1988 RX-7 and a new oem switch was installed which failed also. Wondering if any of you have had a similar experience. Thinking of installing an aftermarket switch and see what happens, however, sure would like to understand the root cause. Car is in like new condition and the failure is not related to work being done on the manual transmission. Wonder if it is a design issue.

Are you familiar w/what failed about the replacement part? Did the fuse which powers the switch blow? Check the Meter fuse.

Thanks for the reply Satch. The meter fuse is fine. Don't know why the switch failed.
I've got to get the car up in the air and remove the switch to see if I can figure
why it failed.
