Replacing oil filter stand o-rings

My oil filter stand is leaking moderately. Assuming its something that can be done with regular hand tools. Didn't find that many threads in the searches I ran.

Can I leave the banjo bolt attached? Its not leaking from the copper washers.

Is it easier to service from the top with wrenches or can it be done from the bottom with a series of extensions and sockets?

Never had to mess with it in the car. Doesn't look like the FSM has much guidance either.
I think I'd do it from the top with the intake elbow removed. And IMO, it will likely be easier to just remove the banjo bolt. A couple of copper crush washers are what...$.50 cents at the most? The pedestal is only held on by two bolts which insert from below. It'll probably be a little fiddley, but should be able to get to both with too much effort.

Ya from what it looks like is to pop the Cooler bolt off (I think it is 15/16th inch or 23mm) and then reach under the pedestal( filter off.,,way easier) with a short 10mm wrench or 1/4 ratchet and socket.The pedestal has studs,the nuts hold the pedestal on.

This was a huge pain in the ****. Be patient, and I took mine completely off to rinse the water passage which had a lot of sludge. The car runs much cooler. U wil need the 23 mm wrench which u will never use again. I replaced all 4 rubber washers and had to re tighten the banjo after a few heat cycles.

Thanks for the replies. It looked hard enough when I had it on a lift. 23mm, really. Cripes, its been a while since I bought a tool that I will use once.

They are definitely studs coming down from the top, nuts on the bottom.

Up until last year I would never have considered re-using any copper washers, like for calipers and such. But the hoses I bought for a Miata didn't have any. So I experimented with annealing them with a propane torch. It seems to have worked so far. But in this case I think a few bucks for new washers is the least of my problems.

Will update this when I finally get around to it and report back.

Was able to get this completed today. Took off the oil filter and used a 10mm ignition wrench. Did not under the 23mm nut and oil line. The o-rings were completely hard and brittle. Put a dab of grease on the new o-rings to hold them in place and bolted it back together. Will have to keep an eye on the garage floor going forward.
