Replace Apex Seal
Replace Apex Seal
Hello, one of my main doubts that was not clarified in my last post
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-gene...-fc3s-1120933/
It is about the frequency of replacing apex seals
I read on forum NoPistons that he replaces around 30,000 Miles and here on RX7Club forum they said that 100 ~ 200 miles.
https://www.nopistons.com/rotary-eng...s-break-73325/
https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...-seals-795352/
I have read that + Boost (HP), + faster replace of apex seal for a car like I said in the previous post, 400~500 HP with how much time should be replaced.
And if it is not replaced or the Apex Seal break or wear and not be made the exchange what can occur?
How can I know that the Apex Seal is already worn or broken and needs to be replaced?
Ty Gracias ^^

*100-200 THOUSAND miles
Read that response again and like everyone said: there's no set time to replace them. Compression tests will determine when a good time to replace them is.

average lifespan of the engines is basically about as follows:
pre 1973 carbon seal engines: 30k miles
1974-1985: 200k miles(the early engines had the widest discrepancy due to chrome peel)
1986-1988 non turbo: 175k
1989-1991 non turbo: 200k
1986-1991 turbo: 150k
1993-2002 twin turbo: 125k
2004-2006 renesis: 90k
2007-2011 renesis: 140k
some have gotten close to twice those numbers but only on rare occasions, some have gotten much less even with good maintenance records. 1986-2002 engines had issues with 3 piece seals wearing out the rotor seal slots, causing premature failure, in the same engines the cast iron coolant seal walls also tended to fail due to casting irregularities as well as poor maintenance of the cooling system.

the renesis weren't quite that bad, though yes they were horrible for reliability and longevity. my 2004 kicked the bucket right at about 100k though the compression had been steadily falling from about 85k until it finally wouldn't start with about 45psi of compression just shy of the 100k mark. many others died around the same mileage, though the automatics sometimes were failing with 60k or less.
also knew a guy with an automatic FD with 250k original miles and a number of other FD owners with close to 200k, so they are merely averages.

I can definitely say they need replacing when it goes "Boom..Thappa,thappa,Thappa"..
It was rhythmic but it didn't match the heavy metal I was listening to when it went!..It was a good drive..Until then....lol!
