Removing the steering wheel...

Hello, i am trying to remove my steering wheel and i know you must use a puller. I bought one online from Sears but when i received it, none of the supplied screws fit the holes. Does anyone know what are the correct measurements for the steering wheel and screws, and possibly where i can find extra puller screws? Thanks!

Put a pillow between your face and the steering wheel. Grab the wheel firmly with both hands and then rock it back and forth while pulling as hard as you can. I have never seen one stuck enough to require the use of a puller. Just BE CAREFUL otherwise you will punch yourself in the face.

You could leave the nut on there a little bit also.

YES!!! LEAVE THE NUT ON A FEW THREADS SO YOU DON'T GET A MOUTHFUL OF STEERING WHEEL!!!

You should be able to rock and pull it off, try a little (very little) bit of penetrating oil on the shaft.

Sometimes they can really get stuck so badly that a puller is needed. The first time I pulled mine by rocking it (and not smacking myself in the face), but recently I tried to take it off again, and damn it is really on there. A good 10 minutes worth of pulling, rocking, and hitting it w/ a dead-blow hammer, and I gave up. Auto parts store will rent pullers out too if needed (basically for free).

Just thread the nut back on a few threads to prevent facial injury.

Depending on what car you have, I would avoid using any type of hammer as some of the steering shafts are meant to collapse and with a hammer you could collapse part of the shaft. I believe this is only on 3rd Gens, however.

The steering shaft has 2 "plastic" pins which will easily snap if you beat on the column with a hammer.

Is anyone dumb enough to hit the steering column with a hammer? That would accomplish nothing. I was talking about hitting the back side of the wheel to pop it forward. And for the record, it does not work.

Call me optimistic...

Just clarifying that hitting the steering column, dash, fenders, or random pedestrians will NOT help remove a steering wheel.

I'm in the process of installing an aftermarket steering wheel in my FC... Just waiting for the hub.

I'm planning to make a detailed description with pictures on how to remove the wheel and install the aftermarket one, plus what you need to do this.
Where should I create the topic? In the Technical Section of 2nd Gens?
If everything will run as expected, it should be ready before the end of the week.

I thought about getting the quick-release hub in the past, but then I have my car as a daily street car, therefore I felt it wasn't necessary.

Get Nardi if you can find it from the stores near where you live, or order from the net. eBay stuff is.... just decent enough if you don't intent on spending too much money.
